Cooperative excavation
Since 2003, URU (University of California Los Angeles, the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG, the Netherlands), and the University of Auckland) has conducted survey and excavations north and north east of Lake Qarun in the Fayum, while in 2002 a field school was taught in Medinet Watfa at the west side of the Fayum depression. The project studies the ancient landscape along the lake shores, and the use of land and water over time in relation to the development of agriculture. Work concentrates on two major periods: prehistory and the Greco-Roman Period.
