The main funding for the Berenike Project was provided by the Netherlands Foundation for Scientific Research, Humanties Department (GW-NWO), which has funded the project from 1995 to 1999 and again from 2000-2003, The National Geographic Society, which has funded the project from 1994 to 2000, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the University of Delaware, UTOPA and the American Philosophical Society.
